Head of department, department of ophthalmology

Sygehus Sønderjylland, The Hospital of Southern Jutland, is seeking a visionary, committed and dynamic head of department to head up the Department of Ophthalmology.

The hospital is in the unique situation of having the opportunity to extend its Department of Ophthalmology under a DKK 17.4 million project, and to expand activities within the department over the coming years. In close collaboration with the managers and staff of the Department of Ophthalmology, you will be playing a key role in this process as the department’s head of department.

The Department of Ophthalmology deals with the diagnosis, treatment and care of both medical and surgical ophthalmic complaints and conditions. The department examines and treats most ophthalmic problems.

The Department of Ophthalmology is developing rapidly, with experienced, committed and highly skilled staff involved in a wealth of activities in an inter-disciplinary environment. We place high emphasis on development and are keen to try new ideas and approaches – in connection with new patient processes, for example.

As the head of department at the Department of Ophthalmology, you will still have the opportunity to participate in the treatment of the patients who visit the department, as this has proved compatible with the performance of management tasks thus far. You will be working closely with the senior nurse and the other managers from the different disciplines within the department.

The more of the qualifications listed below you possess, the better – so we hope that:

  • You are a specialist in ophthalmology
  • You are a “go-getter” – i.e. you are keen to build up something new
  • You have the will and the dynamism to achieve the goals that you and the other managers have established
  • You are a team player with an open management style, and you are skilled in solving problems through dynamic interaction with others
  • You have some management experience; this would be an advantage, but is not an absolute requirement
  • You are skilled at communicating and involving others in discussions
  • You are dynamic, with the capacity to design visions for the development of the department
  • You have completed a relevant management education or are enrolled in a training plan which involves such
  • You are keen to work to set up strong professional environments, and to make room for development, training and research
  • You have the capacity to act as a visible leader of the department, both internally and externally.
